Nuclear fusion and plasma physics laboratory around the only Spherical Tokamak device in China——Sino-United Spherical Tokamak (SUNIST) is combined in China to study magnetic confinement fusion.

The main body of the SUNIST device consists of a stainless steel vacuum chamber and a plurality of oxygen free copper wire rings. Compared with the traditional Tokamak (shape close to tire), Spherical Tokamak has higher safety factor, natural D shape section and better magnetorheological stability. Higher specific pressure (the ratio of plasma pressure to magnetic pressure) can be obtained.
