On October 26, 2020, the Opening Ceremony of CGN internship for TUNEM 2019 students was held. Mr. Gao Zhigang, executive vice president of CGN university, Professor Chen Shaomin, Director of Institute of Modern Physics, DEP, Associate Professor Yu Jiyang, Advisor of TUNEM 2019, other related staff from CGN and DEP, TUNEM 2019 students attended this activity online. Student in campus came to room 220 of Liuqing Building to participate this ceremony.
Mr. Gao Zhigang gave a warm welcome to all participants and briefly introduced about the internship. He also told about the history of CGN, its current working fields and new business areas. As the third largest nuclear enterprise in the world, CGN is the largest nuclear power operator in China and the largest nuclear power constructor worldwide. At the end of his speech, he emphasize that even students cannot be offline still can they participate actively in all kinds of learning online in CGN. He wished all participants a good health with the hope that soon we will be able to meet offline.
Prof. Chen Shaomin also expressed his views and said, “It is a great pleasure to be with you online for the Opening Ceremony. On behalf of Tsinghua University, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to leaders and peers who continuously support nuclear science and technology talents cultivation and TUNEM program. I really appreciate the opportunity provided for TUNEM students, where they could join professional practice, receive professional training and guidance and attend cultural exchange activity.” Talking about CGN, Prof. Chen Shaomin further added, “CGN is one of the most prestigious nuclear giant corporations in China. Under the mission of “Developing clean energy to benefit mankind”, CGN has been going through a glorious 26 years and has set up a global standard, professional supporting system in terms of nuclear power production, engineering construction, research & development as well as nuclear fuel supply. CGN has made important contributions to the development of China’s nuclear energy industry and also contributed to the development of the international nuclear energy field.” At the end, he offered best wishes and good health to TUNEM 2019 students with the hope that they will gain more insight in following professional internship.
Muhammad Waqar Azam, TUNEM 2019 student from Pakistan also gave a speech representing the students. He extended sincere gratitude to CGN and DEP for arranging professional internship during this special time. He also wished to meet his classmates soon on campus. All the students also introduced themselves and showed their commitment to complete the internship in time and to gain maximum knowledge. At the end, all participants watched video that showed the progress through years and latest working fields of CGN.
