Faculty Search in Rare-events Searching Experiments

The Radiation Physics and Detection Technology Laboratory of the Department of Engineering Physics in Tsinghua invites applications for one faculty appointments for an assistant researcher/professor position in the area of rare-events searching experiments in particle physics, astroparticle physics and nuclear physics. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and demonstrated excellence in research in rare-event searching experiment and advanced detection technologies, especially the direct detection of dark matter and neutrino-less double beta decay experiment.

Tsinghua has a broad and vibrant R&D program in the field of Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics and Advanced Detection Technologies. With strong theoretical and experimental effort in the development of advanced detectors, including gaseous, scintillation and semiconductor detectors, it not only contributes in many large scientific research projects like TOF system for RHIC- STAR, GEM-TPC prototype for ILC, CDEX, but also participates in commercial systems developments, including the detector sub-system for large-container inspection systems, and high energy X-ray ICT systems. Tsinghua leads a dark matter experiment, China Dark matter Experiment (CDEX), which aims at light dark matter direct detection and neutrino-less double beta decay searches with germanium detectors. Tsinghua is also in charge of the construction of the deepest underground laboratory in the world, China JinPing underground Laboratory (CJPL), which will be an international platform for particle physics, astroparticle physics, nuclear physics, and so on. With the rock overburden of 2400m, CJPL offers tremendous opportunities for the frontier research of new physics beyond the current particle physics stand model, including the direct detection of dark matter, neutrino-less double beta decay experiment, and many key scientific researches in nuclear astrophysics.

The successful candidate or candidates are expected to conduct an outstanding research based on these R&D program and provide scientific leadership for existing or new efforts in rare-events searching experiments and advanced detection technologies. We expect the successful candidate to become a world leader in their area of expertise.

A Tsinghua professor should teach classes in the Department of Engineering Physics, to serve as PhD advisors of graduate students, and to mentor undergraduate students, as well as supervising postdoctoral research associates and other junior colleagues. Tsinghua also expects its faculty to help in advancing the lab's future and ensuring its success.

Applications must include a curriculum vitae, a publication list, a statement of research interests, a research plan, and arrange to have 3 letters of recommendation. Applicants should submit the required application materials to Jie Zhang via email(newfriend001@163.com) by October 6, 2019 to ensure full consideration.
