On 11th September 2020, professional internship of TUNEM 2019 started at Virtual Simulation Teaching Laboratory of Nuclear Reactors, Department of Engineering Physics (DEP), Tsinghua University. Professor Jiyang Yu welcomed the students and gave outline of the internship. Associate Professor Huang Shanfang gave the brief introduction of state-of-the-art lab jointly established by Institute of Nuclear Energy Science & Engineering Management and Experimental Teaching Centre of Nuclear Engineering & Nuclear Technology, DEP.

Associate Prof. Huang Shanfang explained the objectives of the lab which are teaching experiments and combined Teaching & academic research in the future. He also explained the demonstration experiments that can be carried out in lab which include sever accident of PWR, operation of HTR-PM and virtual reality walking in the plant.  Lab consists of three kinds of nuclear systems: CP1000 PWR by CNNC, HTR-PM by Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET) and CFR600 Sodium Cooled Fast Reactor by CIAE. Key equipment and systems of Nuclear Power Plant were also described in detail. At the end simulation of accident and its consequences were shown which was very helpful for students to understand the scenario.

Seven students attended the lecture in laboratory while remaining students joined online via Tencent. Because of pandemic as most of the students are not in campus, so, DEP took special measures to start the internship online. It is pertinent to mention that this is the first-time internship has been started online. The internship consists of online lectures and on-site visits. All the teachers, staff and students showed their commitment to successfully complete the internship in time.
