On September 23, 2020, the forth activity of the professional internship for TUNEM 2019 students started at the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET). Professor Li Fu, Ms. Guo Xiaojing, and Ms. Li Jing from the INET, associate professor Yu Jiyang, advisor of the class, and TUNEM management staff from DEP participated in the activity. Seven students attended on site while nineteen students online.
Professor Li Fu gave the brief introduction and described the history of INET, the details of work done by INET, and the current working fields. INET was founded in 1960, and since then, it has achieved many mile stones. Currently, INET is working mainly in nuclear energy, new energy technology and energy policy. He also described the history of nuclear energy that how it evolved through years. He also explained in detail about different types of reactors, their comparisons, and the difference between safety systems and recent research in this field. He also stressed how nuclear safety has become most important as a result of different nuclear accidents. Professor Li Fu also talked about Generation IV reactors, its four areas of importance, and challenges faced by Generation IV reactors.
At the end, students visited different labs and relevant officers briefed about the work being carried out in the labs. These lab visits were fruitful for students to get deep understanding about the nuclear energy. All the students gained a lot of knowledge about recent developments in nuclear energy field and its future prospects.
